Why have the faces in the crowd changed to obscure my view?
And why do I find my irises stretching and contracting
To let obsessive pupils scan the three hundred and sixty degrees that hold the clues?

Insane skin quivering from a pulsing blood flow,
To see roadsigns in darkness is impossible,
But with superpowers like these nothing's an obstacle.

Planes of infinite values stretch in all directions - x, y and z
But the intervals all stretch out to leave me marooned at zero,
The treadmills in my mind set on a permanent snail's pace as the distances increase.

A chair on the opposite end of a padded room,
Run to reach it and you're bouncing off the walls with injected energy,
Ten million miles in the wrong direction.

Like an infection it's eating through consciousness
Only burrowing deeper to settle permanently in vital tissues,
It might be terminal but scars fade and cells regenerate.

Put things to sleep to cure the drowsiness,
But just as you count the next sheep
The previous one comes leaping back over the fence...

Author's Comments

Everyone knows what it's like to be obsessed with something! Well this hasn't been edited either. I'm deviating from my usual style a bit recently, less heavy description. And yes I know it's not the best piece of poetry ever...

Tranquility interrupted by a jealous mind, life overcome by the grief of the ending, celebratory drinks for a lost occasion, a mind full of black, the tainted, dirty white.

I like this. I like this a lot.
There's a certain degree of randomness in the words, coupled with something else that just sort of...clicks with me.
Beautiful job.

I think it would be more effective if you made the stanzas shorter, or broke them up somehow, space can be so helpful, i find, when doing poetry. I find when reading long poems like that I can get bored easily, unless there are gaps....the gaps also help to highlight a specific sentence/word, set it apart from the others. I think that would polich it up nicely.....I'm just rammbling....
